Anxiety attacks and panic attacks are terms that are used interchangeably and have come to be regarded as the same thing. An anxiety attack is a period of intense fear with physical sensations.
When you initially start having these episodes, it can be extremely frightening and confusing. You feel helpless, powerless, fear that your time has come or that you’re going mad.
"Somethings Just Not Right"
You may run to the emergency room. You may end up going from doctor to doctor. No one can tell you what’s wrong. All tests are normal. YET, you know something is just ‘not right’.
You’re right. There is a problem. Most doctors and the tests you go through won’t be able to tell you what’s wrong. However, it IS important to go through these tests to rule out ANY possibility of a serious physical condition.
Only a doctor trained in this field can make a proper diagnosis. And the good news is that the condition is treatable and allows you to recover and claim your life back.
It’s very important to seek help and follow the advice of your doctor or therapist and do the assignments you may be given as part of your therapy. Anxiety can lead to other conditions.

Anxiety! New Approaches To Treatment So You Can Start Living Again

Many people live with stress and anxiety based conditions for years with no relief. Maybe they have tried medications which really only camouflage the symptoms but don’t really manage to get to the root of the problem. Some have tried the traditional therapies which will work to some extent. Techniques like cognitive-behavioral therapy can work quite well with some people but there remains a high relapse rate for these approaches. What anxiety and stress sufferers require is a permanent and lasting solution to these debilitating states of mind that they find themselves having to endure on a sometimes daily basis.
Let’s look at some other approaches that although they have not become mainstream yet are giving large amounts of people freedom and real relief from their anxiety without the fear of relapse that the traditional methods often do.
The first one that comes to mind is the EMDR method made famous by Francine Shapiro. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing although overly technical sounding in name, integrates elements of many effective psychotherapies in structured protocols that are designed to maximize treatment effects. These include psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, experiential, and body-centered therapies. EMDR is an information processing therapy and uses an external stimulus, usually a finger moving in front of the line of vision, to break up recurring patterns of anxiety. Recent research on EMDR shows positive benefits and fast removal of anxiety related issues.
The second technique is known as Thought Field Therapy but a revised version of this approach is also known as The Emotional Freedom Technique .It was originally discovered and utilized in treatment by the American clinical psychologist Roger Callahan I can personally vouch for this method because it took my fear of public speaking away in two rounds of treatment. It actually uses acupuncture points on the body which are tapped (by yourself) with your fingers in specified sequence for a couple of minutes until you try to get the anxious feelings back but you cannot because they have simply vanished. It is actually quite miraculous and is presently undergoing research because it is such a simple method to employ and very cost effective and the client can take the skill away and do it on themselves with all manner of problems anytime they wish.
Another method that is receiving a lot of attention recently is the method devised by Charles Linden, himself an chronic anxiety sufferer, who has a scientifically based technique that allows you to reset the amygdala which is a small gland in the brain that seems to perpetuate the anxiety we have. An American National Mental Health institute even endorsed many of his findings concerning how anxiety disorders start and then become magnified. His method is known simply as The Linden Method and is performed at home at the clients leisure.
Of course anxiety and stress sufferers should also aim to employ a daily relaxation regime to calm over-arousal whilst hey attend to these other treatments. A regular regime of stress management via relaxation works wonders to refresh our nervous system. The technique that I use goes beyond the traditional methods that only take you to a superficial level of calmness and actually involves ’switiching off’ the brain stress centers that are responsible for causing stress in the first place. The technique is like an internal ‘massage’ for your brain and very quickly lowers your arousal in a simple but profound manner.

The Truth about Anxiety, Panic Attacks, OCD & Phobias

Well firstly, they are not mental illnesses, they are behavioural conditions which are stored as memory, habit and instinct in an organ called the Amygdala, seated inside the subconscious brain; and, secondly, I don’t like the term disorder, it implies illness and inappropriate anxiety isn’t an illness, it’s inappropriate anxiety… which can be reduced to an appropriate level very quickly indeed!
Psychologists and doctors are wrong! Anxiety disorder doesn’t require drug treatment, in fact, drug treatment is counter-productive; neither does it require counselling or psychological analysis, anxiety can’t be analyzed, by its very nature, anxiety disorder is a ‘physical’ heightening of normal anxiety levels… true, the catalyst for the increased anxiety may have been some kind of trauma, but this is NOT the cause, the cause is simply the new, higher level of anxiety and THIS can easily be corrected.
So what can be done? It’s simple, the Amygdala which is confirmed by the National Institute of mental Health as the cause of anxiety disorders, stores the anxious response as habitual memory or instinctual memory which reacts independently of ‘conscious’ control. You just can’t control it by thinking about it!
So, when this organ becomes ‘re-set’ at a higher than normal benchmark level of anxiety due to catalysts such as stress, work pressure, bereavement, or whatever, the subconscious continues to fire anxious signals out from it even though YOU know ‘consciously’ that it is wrong… it should have returned to normal, but through a process called ‘operant conditioning’, it ‘learns’ to stay at this high level. (Operant conditioning is the process that happens when we learn any new skill by repetition, e.g. driving, instrument etc).
By undermining this anxious reaction and replacing it with a ‘more appropriate’ reaction, the Amygdala can be ‘re-set’ to a completely appropriate ‘normal’ anxiety level… this eliminates the inappropriate anxiety completely and restores normality; free form anxiety symptoms, panic attacks, OCD and phobias… PERMANENTLY!

Katie came as close as is possible to having it all. Great job, loving family, boyfriend, social life… That was until she developed anxiety…
“There were rumours of redundancy in our department. Just rumours. But that was enough to start me off. I became very anxious. Every Monday, I’d head for work, convinced I was about to be told to go. I started worrying about what I’d do if I was made redundant – and despite years of experience in my field, I convinced myself that I was unemployable, that no other company would consider me. I felt useless”
Katie now recognises that the irrational thoughts were all part of the anxiety.
“Gradually, it was robbing me of all my confidence, first in my professional self, then in me as a person. It’s bizarre but had I been made redundant, I’d have just gotten on with it and I’d have probably been OK. But the stress of my job and the worry over IF my name was on the list, that was enough to trigger the anxiety.”
As her anxiety grew, so her relationships became affected. “I felt nobody understood what I was going through. Not even my boyfriend.
